Carl Joseph Woody

Carl Joseph Woody, age 85, of Selbyville, WV took the hand of God and made his way to Heaven unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

He was born on August 5, 1937, in Selbyville (although Faith liked to tease him that he was born in a chicken coop) a son of the late Dorsey Albert and Della May Hanline Woody.  He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years Thelma Hawkins Woody, one son Craig Woody and daughter-in-law Sherry Harlow Woody; two granddaughters Faith and Phoebe Woody who were his partners in crime and the light of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers:  George, Howard, and Dorsey (Junior) Woody; five sisters:  Edith McDaniels, Mabel Hinkle, Arlene Woodson Lee, Alice Hawthorne, and Lorene O’Dean; and two special nephews Rick Woody and Bill O’Dean.

Carl was a quiet man to most, but to those he held dear, he was outgoing and fun.  He was his wife’s backbone, loving partner, and her steady foundation; his son’s most dedicated confidant and best friend; his daughter-in-law’s go-to person for everything and partner in the fascination of all things astronomy; and to his granddaughters, he was their whole world.

Carl worked at Corhart for 36 years before retiring in 1999, to his farm where he enjoyed the peace and quiet for a few short years before Faith and Phoebe were born to shake things up.  His memory will live on through them.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 12-2:00 PM, the funeral hour, with Pastor J. Edward McDaniels officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.

Online condolences may be extended to the Woody family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The Woody family entrusted the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel with the arrangements.
