Capito, Manchin announce infrastructure funding to repair damage after storms

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced three grants totaling $7,342,927 to help repair roads damaged as the result of natural disasters. Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

“Many West Virginia roads are worse for wear—especially after flooding and heavy rains hit several of our counties in 2016 and 2018,” Senator Capito said. “I’m pleased to see this funding help those areas that haven’t gotten the attention they need. Safe roads are essential to West Virginians’ safety and our state’s commerce activities.”

“West Virginians have spoken out about the state of our infrastructure and it’s clear, they want better than the current predicament. This funding will help West Virginia fix highways in Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral and Morgan counties and roads in the Monongahela National Forest, both damaged by flooding, so that we can continue to rebuild as a state. I look forward to witnessing the progress made possible by this funding, and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding that helps West Virginia fix our roads,” Senator Manchin said.

A Beverly woman allegedly ran a stop sign on Main Street in Buckhannon, causing a Dec. 27 crash that involved three vehicles and struck the First Community Bank building, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department’s wreck report.

Woman extricated after Route 33 crash near Huddle House; truck driver cited

A Salem woman was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated after a two-vehicle crash on Route 33 north of the Huddle House. Police say a truck driver attempting to cross lanes to turn left was cited for failing to yield.
