DAVIS – Featuring a weekend chock-full of outdoor adventure for the whole family in the highest mountain valley in the eastern U.S., to include children’s kite building and massive kite flying demonstrations, live music – to include a performance by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra – and guided hikes, Windfest Weekend at Canaan Valley Resort July 1-3 offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

“Escape to the cooler mountain temperatures of Canaan Valley this Independence Day Weekend holiday where guests can experience Windfest, one of the most unique and popular events we offer,” said Sam England, general manager for Canaan Valley Resort. “With a special slope-side, outdoor performance by the acclaimed Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, options for hiking, biking and relaxing by the pool, or taking in activities in the nearby towns of Davis and Thomas, guests have all they’ll want for a special weekend getaway.”

England noted the weekend kicks of Friday evening (July 1st) with the Mountainside Music Series. The Jason Good Blues band will perform outdoors at the ski area and guests can also enjoy sunset chairlift rides into the night. A stargazing party with an introduction to telescopes will be offered at the main lodge beginning at 9 p.m.

Kite building workshops, hosted by the New Era Kite Club, will be offered on both July 2nd and 3rd. Children and adults will learn how to design, build, and fly their own kite. The Club will also demo stunt kites, including a 115-foot cobra and the 150-foot Turbine.

On Sunday, July 3rd, guests can participate in a guided nature hike along the Blackwater River Trail. Enjoy excellent views of the upper Blackwater River and learn about the Northern Hardwood trees native to the area.

The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will perform on the Bear Paw Plaza at the ski area later that day, at 3 p.m. Conductor John Gennaro Devlin is one of the nation’s youngest music directors to lead a professional symphony orchestra and he is a sought-after guest conductor with major orchestras across the nation.

Throughout the weekend guests have access to the resort’s outdoor pool, miles of hiking and biking trails, and an 18-hole championship golf course, among other amenities offered at the property.
