Woman arrested for felony shoplifting after allegedly trying to take items from Walmart

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County woman was arrested for allegedly taking several items from Walmart and attempting to leave without paying for them.

Katrina Sandy, 30, of Buckhannon, was arrested for shoplifting third offense, a felony.

According to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s Office filed by investigating officer Sgt. Thomas Posey with the Buckhannon Police Department on June 27, 2022, Sandy entered Walmart. She then allegedly concealed “multiple items” in a beach bag. Sandy allegedly passed the last station for payment without paying and was subsequently stopped by Walmart’s loss prevention department.

The total cost of the stolen items was $48.16.

Upshur County Magistrate Mark Davis set bail at $5,000 cash or surety.

The potential penalty for shoplifting third offense is confinement for not less than one year nor more than 10 years and a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000.
