Buckhannon: Then & Now – Sand Plant Riverboat

Buckhannon: Then and Now. Join us in showcasing Upshur County throughout history and today.

The “Flora Hughes” riverboat was named in honor of Draper Camden Hughes wife. This excursion boat and sand barge acted as a carrier of sand and stone between Buckhannon and Hampton. This boat was also a pleasure riding boat on the weekends along the Buckhannon River, near the modern day “Poe Bridge”. Materials shipped along the Buckhannon River were used for local building projects.
