BUCKHANNON — This Sunday, Oct. 20, the Buckhannon Presbyterian will be holding a special service to celebrate the 175 birthday of the Church.
Led by Rev. Peter Vial and his wife, Tina, the program will start at 2 p.m. and will be followed by light refreshments. The Church is located at 13 S. Locust Street across from the Upshur County Courthouse.
The Buckhannon Presbyterian Church was officially started in 1849, although there are indications Church services may have been started as early as 1820 but did not continue long. With the onset of the Civil War, the original Church building, located at the corner of Kanawha and Lincoln Streets, was destroyed by the troops.
The present building, located at 13 S. Locust, was built in 1873-74 . To learn more about the Presbyterian Church’s long history in Upshur County, please stop by on Sunday the 20th and enjoy our program.
