Buckhannon man arrested for soliciting a minor via text messages

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County man was arrested Friday after allegedly asking a minor to send him sexually suggestive pictures in May 2020.

Terry F. Evans, 30, of Buckhannon, was arrested July 16 for soliciting a minor via computer, a felony.

According to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s Office filed by investigating officer Sgt. Dewaine Linger with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on May 21, 2020, Evans allegedly solicited a 15-year-old female victim by texting her and asking her to send explicit pictures.

Evans also allegedly sent her an explicit picture of himself and then asked her to send a video depicting a sexual act.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash-only by Upshur County Magistrate Alan Suder, and of Tuesday, July 20, Evans remained incarcerated in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

The penalty for a conviction of soliciting a minor is confinement in the state penitentiary for not less than two nor more than 10 years, a fine of up to $5,000 or both.
