Buckhannon City Hall roof repairs delayed indefinitely

A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a local bank, as well as at other banks in the region.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey visited Pleasants and Lewis counties to assess storm, flood and tornado recovery efforts. State crews, first responders and volunteers are clearing debris, repairing infrastructure and delivering supplies to affected residents.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey is seeking an expedited federal disaster declaration after storms and flooding devastated West Virginia. The request would aid residents and governments in seven counties, with more than 950 homes reporting damage.

Buckhannon residents must place flood-damaged debris at the curb by noon Tuesday, July 28, for National Guard pickup. Items should not block roads, sidewalks or drainage paths.

Michael Scott McNemar, 54, of Buckhannon, WV, and formerly of Petersburg, WV, died on July 23, 2026. He was a beloved science teacher, active community member, hunter, and fisherman.

Residents are urged to place flood-damaged debris at the curb immediately so West Virginia Army National Guard units can continue countywide pickup and removal.
