Philippi, W.Va. – Broaddus Hospital of Philippi is growing to meet the demand for family medicine and inpatient care in Barbour County.   Dr. Garrett Butler will work as a full time family practitioner at Broaddus Family Care (BFC), and will serve as hospitalist, providing medical care to hospitalized patients.

“Dr. Butler has been part of the Broaddus Family Care team for more than three years, and patients love him.  We’re so happy that he will now be with us full time, opening his schedule to care for even more county residents,” said Broaddus Hospital CEO Dana Gould.

Dr. Butler will see patients Monday through Friday at BFC.

“Our family medicine program is more robust than ever,” Gould said.  “In addition to Dr. Butler, the BFC team includes Shane Ritchie, APRN, FNP-BC, Jessica Murray, APRN, NP-C, and Dr. Terri Hummer.  Primary care allows individuals and families to access a go-to provider for their preventive and basic health care needs.  BFC treats all members of the family – from infants to the elderly.

As a hospitalist, Dr. Butler can admit patients for further inpatient care, and then provides medical consistency during their stay in the acute and swing bed units, as well as Mansfield Place if long-term care is needed.   Dr. Butler is the Medical Director for Mansfield Place.

“It’s especially important to patients and their families to remain in their home community while hospitalized.  They receive exceptional care and have access to specialized services, without having to travel,” Dr. Butler said.

Dr. Butler received his medical degree from the WVU School of Medicine in 2014, and after completing his residency, chose family medicine so he could care for a diverse population of patients.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology from Towson University in Towson, Md. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, National Rural Health Association, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and West Virginia Board of Medicine.

Dr. Butler joined Davis Health System in 2017, where he worked as a hospitalist at Davis Medical Center, and saw patients in clinic settings at Broaddus Hospital and Buckhannon Medical Care.  He will now be at Broaddus Family Care in a full-time capacity, and will serve as the Medical Director of Mansfield Place.

Broaddus Family Care is located at Broaddus Hospital at 6 healthcare Drive, Philippi.

New patients are welcome, and can schedule an appointment by calling 304-457-1522.
