Bonnie Gray Black Cartier

Bonnie Gray Black Cartier, 91, of Buckhannon, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Holbrook Healthcare Center in Buckhannon.

She was born in Saberton, on February 15, 1934, a daughter of the late Ernest Ray Black and Nora Elizabeth Veith Black. On March 21, 1959, Bonnie married Leonard Joseph Cartier, with whom she will now be reunited in Heaven. Also greeting her in Heaven is her daughter, Donna Cartier Mueller.

Bonnie was a beacon of love and kindness to her family, surviving are three children: Andi Cartier of Buckhannon, Corliss Cartier of Rockford, IL and Brenda Cartier Abbett and husband, Mitch, of Minnesota; three grandchildren: Matthew, Kristina and Daniel; and her beloved best friend from childhood, Ina Jean Cutright.

Bonnie’s life was characterized by a profound love for horses, a passion she carried from her childhood years. It was this same love that led her to the Honor Society in high school where she also won a wartime service award for being on school safety patrol, a testament to her commitment to excellence and her unwavering determination. After graduating from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in the class of 1951, Bonnie continued to make significant contributions to her community. She was an integral part of the First Baptist Church, where she was treasurer for ten years. Her contributions extended to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where she served as an auxiliary member of the gift shop. Bonnie’s generous spirit was also evident in her contributions to the Humane Society, Wounded Warriors and the VFW. She worked maintaining her home and running a farm, showing she was also a successful business woman.

Family and Friends will gather for visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation, located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton.
