Bobcat tennis team falls to Fairmont State in Atlantic Regional

CHARLESTON – For the third time this season, the Fairmont State University men’s tennis team faced West Virginia Wesleyan College, this time at the NCAA Atlantic Regional. The Falcons took down the Bobcats for the second time, 4-0, to advance to Tuesday’s regional final.

As the match started with doubles play, Fairmont State earned the first win at No. 3 as Hugo Massoni and Alex Stacy were victorious, 6-0. With No. 1 and No. 2 doubles still competing, Elia Barozzi and Seena Saadevandi won their match, 6-4, and earned the first point of the match for the Falcons.

Moving to singles play, Kan Watanabe gave FSU its second point thanks to a straight-set win at No. 2 singles. Alexandre Pages pushed the Falcons just one point away from the match win as he won in straight-sets as well, 6-4 and 7-5. With four matches still going on, Barozzi claimed the match point with a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4 and 6-1.

Fairmont State will now face Mountain East Conference foe, the University of Charleston with a trip to the National Championship on the line. The two teams will play on Tuesday, May 14 in Charleston at 12 noon.

Wesleyan closed out their season with a 13-8 record.
