Betty May Simmons

Betty May Simmons, age 81, of Hacker Valley and formerly of Pickens, WV died Friday, April 15, 2022, at her home. 

She was born on March 7, 1941, in Bendertown, WV, a daughter of the late Drury and Ethel Bankhead Harper.   On August 3, 1967, she was united in marriage to Richard Franklin Simmons who preceded her in death on June 27, 2016.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Tyler and Josh Simmons, daughter-in-law Lisa Simmons, and brother Chet Harper. 

Surviving are two sons:  Jeff Tenney and wife Sandy of Pickens, WV and Kevin Simmons of French Creek, WV; three daughters:  Diane Bender and husband Danny of Hacker Valley, WV, Roberta Sears and husband Randy of French Creek, and Patty Cowger and husband Tom of Hacker Valley; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Susan Brown and husband Leonard of Cleveland, WV; two brothers:  Jerald Harper and Mike Harper and wife Diane, both of Cleveland, WV; and many nieces and nephews. 

Betty attended Pickens Baptist Church, and enjoyed singing, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM–the funeral hour, at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeff Swecker officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pickens Cemetery.
