Betty Louise Gifford

Betty Louise Gifford, 78, of Buckhannon passed away in the comfort of her home and surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

She was born in Buckhannon on May 28, 1941, a daughter of the late Virgil and Luella Gay Hinkle Ours.

On May 12, 1961 she married the love of her life, Robert Duran Gifford. They have now been reunited to share eternity together.

Betty is survived by five children: David Gifford of Mauldin, S.C., Richard Gifford and fiancé, Staci Unger, of Bridgeport, Rob Gifford of Buckhannon, Elizabeth Gifford Howell and companion, Steve Minnick, of Buckhannon, and Quinton Gifford of Buckhannon; eleven grandchildren: Andrea, Cameron, Kevin, Bradley, Matthew, Jessi, Patrick, Katelyn, Gabriel, Holden, and Quinn; four great-grandchildren; and two siblings: Robert Ours and wife, Sharon, of Buckhannon, and Patty Mahan and husband, Jim, of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Betty graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in the Class of 1960. After marrying Robert, Betty became a columnist and was the author of the Bailey Ridge News in the Record Delta.

She very much enjoyed her second role as homemaker where she cared for her home and family. She was Christian by faith and shared the word of God through singing gospel music.

Betty was also well known for her cooking. She thoroughly adored sharing her homemade food with anyone and everyone. Her homemade rolls, bread, biscuits, and mashed potatoes were favorites among her family.

Betty was a member of the Women of the Moose. She also loved to paint and was a true artist. Above all, Betty treasured her family and the time spent with them.

Betty’s request for cremation has been honored and a private service will be held at a later date.

We, at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew, are honored and privileged to serve the family of Betty Louise Gifford. Online condolences may be expressed at www.PatBoyleFuneralHome.com.
