Basketball Lady Bucs open season Tuesday at Preston

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc basketball team is poised to make their 2021-22 debut at Kingwood Tuesday night on the road against the Preston Knights.

Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Head coach Rob Kittle put his Lady Bucs through a pair of scrimmages last week in preparation for the opener against Tucker County and Oak Hill. He was pleased overall with how both scrimmages went.

“Against Tucker County, we did well running our transition offense, and we were able to get some easy baskets,” stated Kittle. “We were able to get our hands on lots of passes. We didn’t do a good job with our half-court offense and didn’t get through our sets. We were rushing things; we needed to be more disciplined. The Oak Hill scrimmage went pretty well. We were able to turn them over and did a great job with our pressure defense.”

For the opener with Preston, Kittle said he plans to start Shelby McDaniels at the point, Kenna Maxwell at the two guard, Gabby Parke at the three, while Kendal Currence and Kiara Woods will get the nods underneath at the four and the five.

First off the bench in the opener will be Olivia Ellis, Kendall Davis and Alyssa Abel.

Kittle expects a good game from Preston in the opener.

“Preston has had our number the last few years, so we are really looking forward to having a good showing up there,” said Kittle. “We have to make someone other than Carsynn Sines to beat us. She is athletic player that runs the floor well and is very good in the post. We really need to get the season off to a good start.”

Following their opener Tuesday at Preston, the Lady Bucs will open their home season Thursday hosting Lewis County.
