Basketball ‘Cats tumble on the road to Slippery Rock, 70-56

SLIPPERY ROCK (Pa.) — West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball went on the road Monday for a non-conference meeting with Slippery Rock University and picked up its fourth straight loss, 70-56.

The Rock dominated offense in the paint, scoring 30 of its points inside the box while Wesleyan managed just eight. But the Bobcats shot a better perimeter game, hitting 13-23 from three while Slippery Rock sank 6-of-25 three-pointers.

The defensive struggle was won at the foul line as Slippery Rock made 20-of-25 free throws while the Bobcats hit 5-of-8 free throws.

Bobcat junior guard Michael Batchelor led the Bobcats with 7-of-12 FGs for 21 points and a pair of free throws but also gave up a game high six turnovers. Senior guard Alex Mirhosseini added 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting that included five 3-pointers and three free throws. Alex Gray contributed seven rebounds.

For the Rock, it was Jomo Goings leading the way with 5-of-11 field goals for 18 points and five rebounds. Maceo Austin recorded a double-double 14 points and 10 rebounds while teammate O’Meech Wilson tallied nine points and 12 rebounds that added to Slippery Rock’s 47-27 lopsided rebounding performance.
