ELKINS — The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s basketball team traveled to cross-county rival Davis & Elkins College Saturday and walked away with its 15th loss of the season (3-15), falling 89-81.
Wesleyan never had the lead but the game was tied twice, both in the second half as the Bobcats remained close throughout all 40 minutes. With 12:21 remaining, Anthony Crosby jammed a dunk to tie the score at 57, but the ‘Cats couldn’t hold onto the tight margin going into the final five minutes and the Senators pulled away.
Crosby scored a game-high and personal best 24 points to lead the Bobcats. Crosby added an assist, four rebounds and one blocked shot.
Alex Mirhosseini had 18 points, two assists, three rebounds and a blocked shot. Michael Batchelor, who is fifth in the Mountain East Conference in 3-point field goal percentage with .381 hit 3-of-7 from deep as part of his 15-point effort.
Davis & Elkins was led by Nicolas Silva who scored a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Charleston Ponds added 21 points, four assists and five rebounds.
The Bobcats head to Salem University for a non-conference game against the Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
