Baseball Bucs down Preston in sectional tournament, 15-1

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur baseball Buccaneers made quick work of the Preston Knights by a 15-1 score in a five-inning game to stay alive in the Section 2, Region 1 double elimination tournament Wednesday evening.

Preston scored first but the Bucs answered with 15 runs as the game ended early on the 10-run mercy rule.

Preston scored their run in the top of the first when Robbie Lowe drew a one-out walk, went to third on a double by Mason Chaney and scored on Lucas McVicker’s single.

The Bucs took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with five runs, scoring all five with two outs.

Jaden Westfall hit a one-run double, Brayden Hamer hit a one-run single, Elijah Bryant nailed a one-run single to left, Zach Calef-Boring hit a one-run single to left and Peyton Bennett hit a one-run single to right for the scoring in the inning.

The Bucs made it 10-1 in the bottom of the of third with five more runs.

They scored the five runs on just one hit, a single by Calef-Boring, taking advantage of four walks and an error.

B-U put the game away with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth with the big hit belonging to Bryant, who hit a two-run home run to left field.

The Bucs had nine hits in the win with Calef-Boring leading the way with three while Bryant had two.

Ryan Snyder earned the win pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and fanned three.

The win improved the Bucs to 14-12 heading into Thursday’s elimination game against the Bridgeport Indians.

The winner will play University for the sectional championship on Friday.
