Barbour County woman, age 66, among eight COVID-19 deaths reported in West Virginia since Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 3,525 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 364 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (55), Barbour (14), Lewis (13), Randolph (231) and Webster (11) counties. In Upshur County, the number of active cases stayed at the same level as reported Friday.

Eight additional deaths were attributed to the disease over the weekend, according to the DHHR – a 73-year old male from Kanawha County, a 71-year old male from Wood County, a 75-year old male from Mineral County, an 88-year old female from Wood County, a 55-year old male from Morgan County, a 75-year old female from Monongalia County, a 66-year old female from Barbour County, and a 72-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 7, 2021, there have been 2,952,473 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 162,540 total cases and 2,821 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 3.19%.

A total of 753,619 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.  That’s about 42% of the state.
