B-U’s Shreve takes first at Stonewall Invitational; team lands fourth

WESTON – In a small tune-up race for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs at the Stonewall Invitational Wednesday evening before their appearances in their Big 10 and Region I Championships in the next two weeks, Samantha Shreve continued to shine on the cross-country course.

Shreve racked up another win, this time by 80 seconds in the 37-person race.

Shreve clocked a winning time of 20:19.6 while runner-up Destiny Berryman of Doddridge County had a time of 21:39.1. Berryman’s Doddridge County teammates took third and fourth as Katie Cottrill was third with a time of 22:06.6 and Bailey Holden was fourth with a time of 22:27.4.

The Lady Bucs finished fourth out of five teams with 77 points.

Doddridge County won the team title with 26 points while Braxton County was second with 59 points and East Fairmont was third with 74. Tucker County trailed the Lady Bucs in fifth with 102 points.

Scoring for the Lady Bucs were Mia Sappey in 14th (25.09.3), Anya Morehead in 20th (26.08.3), Angelina Winter in 21st (26:41.4), and Pressley Bowers in 24th (27:21.9).

The other two Lady Buc runners were Mallory Moss in 25th (27:22.3) and Martina Mota Lobato in 33rd (34:59.1).

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Thursday (Oct. 12) in the Big 10 Championships at Robert C. Byrd.
