Several Buckhannon-Upshur High School students who earned top honors at the Upshur County Social Studies Fair will advance to the West Virginia Region VII Social Studies Fair, scheduled for April 7, 2026, at Glenville State University.

According to a post from the school:

  • Karson Karickhoff took first place in Anthropology for “Conservation vs. Development in National Parks.”
  • In Psychology, Karma Kanaday claimed first place with “Serial Killers: Born or Made?” Rease Zirkle placed second with “The Mental Effects on Student Athletes.”
  • Johnny Chen earned first place in State/Local Studies for “The Strawberry Festival.”
  • Adelaide McVey and Sadie Wilt took first place in US History for “Alexander Hamilton’s Effect on the USA.”
  • Baylee Hurst, Kierra Pumphrey and Johannah Reger earned first place in World History for “Roles of Women in World War II.”
