CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Applications are now available for Day of Service and Remembrance Grants through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH).

This funding is designated to recognize and assist in the preservation of local and family cemeteries in West Virginia. Eligible projects include nominating cemeteries to the National Register of Historic Places, workshops and clean up days, interpretation, and rehabilitation. The deadline for receipt of applications submitted through our on-line portal (GoApply) is April 15, 2024.

This funding is available from Volunteer West Virginia as part of their Sept. 11, 2024, Day of Service and Remembrance Grant program, and has been designated to recognize and assist the preservation or stabilization of local and family cemeteries, which may contain interments of veterans and persons from underrepresented communities.

The program provides a minimum grant of $1,000 to the maximum of $10,000 and requires a dollar-to-dollar match by the applicant. Applicants may be state or local government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, private citizens, religious organizations, educational institutions, or Certified Local Governments.
