SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-0-1) women’s soccer team played Slippery Rock (0-0-1) to a 2-2 draw in the 2021 season opener at James Egli Field on Thursday, Sept. 2.
Natalie Pireu scored the first goal of the season in the 26th minute on a free kick that was Wesleyan’s first registered shot of the game.
WVWC snagged a 2-0 lead during the 40th minute when Hailey Dillow found Savannah Masterson all alone, who converted her first goal as a Bobcat. Ally Moore saved all eight shots that were sent her way in the first half.
Slippery Rock cut the deficit in half in the 51st minute on a goal by Jordyn Minda. Wesleyan maintained a 2-1 lead until the 89th minute when Rachel Edge broke through for the Rock with an equalizer.
The home team outshot the Bobcats 4-0 in overtime, but the match finished in a 2-2 tie.
Next up for WVWC women’s soccer is another road contest, this time at Indiana (Pa.) on Sunday, Sept. 5 beginning at 2 p.m.
