Photos: Firefighters battle blaze in West Virginia Wesleyan College physical plant

Dozens of firefighters from Upshur and neighboring counties battled a blaze in the West Virginia Wesleyan College physical plant Monday evening.

The fire broke out at about 8 p.m. Monday, and Buckhannon firefighters were quickly on scene. The major flames — which were seen shooting into the sky from the room were extinguished quickly, but light to moderate smoke could be seen rising from the center of the structure for the next hour.

The physical plant is located on Camden Avenue, near Wesleyan baseball field and the Riverwalk parking lot. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

“No one was injured,” according to a press release from the college. “Damage to the physical plant is unknown at this time. West Virginia Wesleyan College thanks responding units who came from Upshur, Lewis, Randolph and Barbour counties for their quick response.”

Fire crews remained on scene for more than two hours but began to wind down operations shortly after 10 p.m.
