West Virginia reports six new COVID-19 deaths Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 1,334 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 22 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (14), Barbour (3), Lewis (7), Randolph (39) and Webster (3) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – a 52-year old female from Kanawha County, a 40-year old female from Mercer County, a 94-year old female from Mercer County, a 76-year old female from Mercer County, an 89-year old female from Taylor County, and a 104-year old female from Mercer County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 1, 2021, there have been 3,012,199 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 164,097 total cases and 2,897 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 1.53%.

A total of 826,688 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 46% of the state.
