BUCKHANNON – The Upshur County Recreation Complex Board is excited to announce it has secured sponsors for each of the 16 teams playing in this summer’s basketball league during the month of July.

The summer basketball league is a major fundraiser for the local nonprofit organization. Because of the generosity of the team sponsors, the $30-per-player fee will function as a donation to the local nonprofit. The UCRC Board’s goal is to raise enough funds to construct a state-of-the-art recreational facility which will provide recreational opportunities for all of the citizens of Upshur County and spur economic development.

UCRC President Mitchell Shaw wishes to express the Board’s gratitude to this year’s team sponsors, including Appalachian Mineral Title Company, Gold Standard Cleaning Services, High Point Construction, Jenkins Subaru-Hyundai, KBAM Builders, Maniac Mountain, LLC, My Buckhannon, Pre Played Media, Ralph’s Furniture, Sam’s Pizza, Strategy IT, TKS Contracting, Toothman Ford, Top Line Apparel, LLC, WBR Utilities and Whitey’s Supply, LLC.

“We are extremely thankful for the support from 16 local area businesses,” Shaw said. “Sixteen businesses are stepping up to the plate and helping make this league great. We can’t thank the owners and employees of these businesses enough. Because of these funds, all the players in this league will get a nice new reversible jersey.”

Shaw said UCRC has also secured a leaguewide sponsor, but that announcement will be made in the coming days.

“We’re excited about our league sponsorship this season, and when the timing is right, we will make an announcement regarding who that will be and what it will help us accomplish,” he added.

Shaw said the summer basketball league has bumped up the number of teams this year from just 11 in 2020 to 16 in 2021. In fact, about 150 or more players have signed up to participate. Play is expected to get underway the week of June 28, with games at the basketball court at the Upshur County Rec Park on week nights.
