Richard “Pee Wee” Small

Richard “Pee Wee” Small, 86, of Buckhannon, W.Va. died Sunday, May 16, 2021, at his home.

He was born February 15, 1935 in Monterey, Va., a son of the late Valley and Coachie Boswell Small. On April 16, 1957 he married Waneta Katheryn Lake who preceded him in death on October 27, 2017.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ezra and Eddie Small; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Small; three brothers, infant brother, Buddy Small, Josh and Marsh Small and one half sister, Irene Small.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Lee Small and wife Renee, Jimmy Small and Joe Small all of Buckhannon; three daughters, Hazel Ware and husband Mason, Betty Howard and husband Albert and Evelyn Longanetta and husband Frank all of Buckhannon; eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one brother, Dick Small and wife Mary of Buckhannon; two sisters, Stella Fortney and Flossie Small both of Statesville, NC and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Small was the former owner of Richard Small Paving. He guided his family until his last day and was the “best father in the world,” who would do anything for his family.

Friends will be received Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton, W.Va.
