Man arrested on drug-related charges after police allegedly found him sitting in stolen vehicle

Collins

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County man was arrested Tuesday after officers allegedly found 7.64 grams of methamphetamine in a stolen vehicle he was sitting inside.

Clarence B. Collins, 53, of Buckhannon, was arrested for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a felony.

According to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s Office filed by investigating officer Cpl. Marshall O’Connor, task force officer with the Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit and the Buckhannon Police Department, on Tuesday April 13, officers with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle after the plate showed up on a Weston license plate reader.

Chief Deputy Mike Coffman Coffman and Sgt. Theron Caynor located the vehicle in the BFS/Huddle House parking lot along Route 33 West. According to the report, Collins was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle, while the driver was located in the BFS store. After detaining both subjects and searching the vehicle, officers found a small, pink flowered clutch under the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Located inside the clutch was a small, plastic bag, containing approximately 7.64 grams of suspected methamphetamine. According to the report, officers found $500 on Collins, the file says.

Magistrate Mark Davis set bail at $10,000 cash only, and Collins remained in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail as of Friday.

The penalty for a conviction of possession with intent to deliver meth is confinement in the state penitentiary for not less than one year and no more than 15 year, a fine of up to $25,000 or both.
