Coy Clifford Chipps, 92, of Kanawha Head slipped gently into the arms of the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2020 in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by loving family.
He was born in Guardian on August 31, 1928, a son of the late Elmer and Myrtie Cowger Chipps. In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by one son: David Chipps; and four siblings: Denzel Chipps, Freda Alderman, Opal Yates, and Mae Seely.
On June 11, 1951, Coy married Nellie Lemoine Dever Chipps and they shared sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage.
Cherishing their memories of Coy are his wife, Nellie of Kanawha Head; daughter, Diane Chipps Ware of Kanawha Head; four grandchildren: Travis Ware, and Nicholas, Tyler, and Caleb Chipps; five great-grandchildren: Gauge, Nathen, and Gavin Ware, and Adaline and Decland Chipps; and several nieces and nephews.
Coy was an Army Veteran of the 101st Screaming Eagles during the Korean War. He was also a member of Jerry’s Run United Methodist Church. Coy retired after welding at MTD for 31 years. His love of working and being outdoors lead him to become a dedicated adopt-a-highway member for over 20 years. Coy also enjoyed feeding the deer and turkeys near his home. In his early years, Coy was also a coal miner.
Coy’s request for cremation has been honored and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
