Another new COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County Thursday as statewide death toll hits 325

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 202 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including one in Upshur County.

Four new cases were also reported in Barbour County and three in Randolph County.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR –  a 96-year old female from Mason County, a 62-year old female from Fayette County, a 72-year old male from Fayette County, an 86-year old male from Kanawha County, a 69-year old female from Kanawha County, and an 89-year old male from Pleasants County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., September 24, 2020, there have been 528,658 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 14,706 total cases and 325 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Thursday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Mason, Mercer, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Upshur, Wayne, Wetzel, Wood and Wyoming counties.

The current DHHR tally for Upshur County does not match the number being reported by the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department because the state did not include three cases reported locally during the week of Sept. 14.

After more than a dozen ‘tweaks,’ no West Virginia counties are currently red on the statewide alert map. Upshur County is listed as green, although for some reason the two new cases reported by the DHHR on Wednesday are not being included in the calculation.

About 3,550 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 10,831 people have recovered and 325 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.11%.
