The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 180 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old male from Kanawha County and an 81-year old female from Putnam County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., September 20, 2020, there have been 513,967 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 14,054 total cases and 310 deaths,” according to a press release.
The DHHR is still not reporting at least three additional cases in Upshur County. The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department first reported 61 total cases as of Monday, Sept. 14, and 63 on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The DHHR report lists just 60 cases.
New cases were reported Sunday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Pleasants, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Summers, Wayne, Wood, Wyoming.
The West Virginia Department of Education released the weekly school alert map Saturday evening. The map has been tweaked more than a dozen times since it was introduced in August.
The counties facing limitations on school or sports this week are:
- Red — Fayette, Kanawha, Mingo, Putnam
- Orange — Boone, Monongalia
- Gold — Logan, Ohio, Wyoming
About 3,518 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 10,226 people have recovered and 310 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.73%.
