Another COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County on Friday

A third case of COVID-19 has been identified in Upshur County, according to a press release from the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department.

The health department declined to release any information on the case other than to state it is not due to community transmission. The positive test is the second reported in Upshur County this week.

Of the two prior cases that had been reported locally, Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department Nurse Director Sue McKisic said one case is no longer considered active, meaning that person is out of quarantine. The second person who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently on home isolation for a 14-day quarantine period.

West Virginia is up to 536 known cases of COVID-19 as of Friday morning, although state coronavirus czar Dr. Clay Marsh said in a tweet that the true number could be closer to 3,200 cases.

Overall, 11 percent of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in West Virginia have recovered to date, Marsh said in a press conference Thursday.

Of the 504 cases that had been identified at the time of the press conference, 57 people had recovered, five had died and 442 remained active.
