OSIX Program at GSC to Benefit from FirstEnergy Foundation Donation

GLENVILLE, WV – The FirstEnergy Foundation recently presented a $5,000 donation to the GSC Foundation in order to assist criminal justice and business majors who are interested in participating in the Open Source Information Exchange (OSIX) program at Glenville State College.

The OSIX program utilizes student analysts who review “open source” information online to assist law enforcement officials. The students are able to hone their cybercrime investigation skills through the program in GSC’s specialized OSIX lab.

FirstEnergy West Virginia Operations President Holly Kauffman said, “FirstEnergy is proud to support Glenville State’s educational efforts regarding cybercrime prevention. Cutting-edge technology is essential to effectively train our future workforce in modern investigative concepts. We hope this STEM grant will help in that regard.”

“The Glenville State College Open Source Information Exchange Team is grateful for the $5,000 grant from the FirstEnergy Foundation. The money will be used to upgrade our OSIX lab with up-to-date computers and educational technologies that will allow students to participate in cyber-investigations and sharpen their skills for real world situations. The donation not only invests in the immediate needs of our students, but also the community,” said Dr. Kenneth Lang, who serves as Chair of GSC’s Departments of Criminal Justice and Social Science.
