Masterclasses, one-on-one mentoring and maybe even a jam session with a country music icon await students in the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts.
Grammy-winning recording artist Kathy Mattea has been named a Distinguished Artist in Residence in the School of Music for the 2019-20 academic year. In this role, the Cross Lanes native will visit WVU’s Morgantown campus to offer one-on-one mentoring to students, present lectures in several classes, and lead masterclasses with the WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Bands.
Mattea’s first residency of the year will take place Oct. 29-31. It will culminate in a public masterclass with voice students to be held in the University’s Museum Education Center on Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
Mattea will return to WVU in March 2020 for a second residency visit.
