Board of Governors Chairwoman honored by Marion County Chamber of Commerce

Fairmont State University Board of Governors Chairwoman Dixie Yann was awarded the Rev. Squires Lifetime Achievement Award at the 66th Annual Marion County Chamber of Commerce Dinner.

This achievement is the highest award the Chamber gives, Chamber President Tina Shaw said. Rev. Squires was the leader in giving back to the community and those presented with this award working to carry on that legacy.

“The award truly goes to somebody who has gone above and beyond their call of duty,” she said. “There is nobody in this community who gives back more than Dixie Yann.”

Yann currently serves as the Board of Governors chairwoman and has been on the Board since 2012. Fairmont State President Dr. Mirta Martin was thrilled to congratulate Chairwoman Yann for such a prestigious award.

“Dixie is a good friend and mentor to me, and she is an unfaltering ally of Fairmont State University. She’s everything we want our graduates to strive to be – she’s not only inspirational, dedicated, and hard-working, but she’s also humble and kind,” President Martin said. “Her efforts on behalf of Fairmont State and the City of Fairmont will impact our communities, our citizens, and future Falcons for years to come.”

In addition to serving Fairmont State, Yann is extremely active in the community from the Chamber of Commerce and United Way to Rotary Club and Friends of the Library. Much of her time is also spent with Marion County Meals on Wheels which she is the co-founder and president.
