Central W.Va. Center for Pregnancy Care supplies ‘Bags of Hope’ to mothers in transition

The Central West Virginia Center for Pregnancy Care and World Vision team up to provide ‘Hope Kit Bags’ Tuesday in Buckhannon. The kits are packed with supplies for mothers, especially those who have to leave their homes in a hurry. BUCKHANNON – Being a mother is one of the most important jobs a person can have, but sometimes when caring for children, mothers forget to take care of themselves.

That problem is one the Central West Virginia Center for Pregnancy Care hopes to address through a collaboration with World Vision.

On Tuesday, the agencies teamed up to provide bags filled with personal care items for local mothers.

“Today, we are giving away the Hope Kit Bags,” said Anna Burr of the CWVCPC. “World Vision and the Thirty-One Bag people have worked together to make these Hope Kits. The bag actually says ‘Hope’ on the outside, and inside it is packed with goodies just for mommies. It’s not for babies, just for their moms and contains items such as Chapstick, paper pads, comb, brush, toothbrush, toothpaste and many other items.”

Burr said she invited lots of women to take advantage of the “Hope Bag Shower.”

“I would expect we will have more than 50 moms who will stop by to get one of these kits,” she said.

Along with the more than 50 bags for the Buckhannon Office of the Central West Virginia Center for Pregnancy Care, Burr said she has 15 Hope Bags she will distribute in the Gassaway Office for the moms in that area.

The Hope Bag Kit distribution marks the second year the CWVCPC has partnered up with World Vision for this event.

David Leach, site manager for World Vision in Philippi, said the purpose of the event not only captures the mission of many of World Vision’s partners, but also helps to promote the program nationally.

“We try to get donors to help build these for ladies that need help while they are fleeing [from certain domestic situations],” Leach said. “When fleeing from situations, some women have to leave with nothing. These Hope Kits are built with that situation in mind where they can get that personal care when they are running from a violent situation or whatever has caused them to be displaced.”

Leach said World Vision has partners in about 40 counties in the state and partners in about 10 other states.

“Today, we want to promote what CWVCPC does because they do it so well,” Leach said. “That’s why we are here – of all the places we could have went with this project, we are here.”

Burr said the CWVCPC is located at 156 Hackberry Lane in Buckhannon, but they will be relocating soon, so stay tuned for news on the move.

The Central West Virginia Center for Pregnancy Care is a nonprofit organization that offers educational, emotional, practical and spiritual support for anyone regardless of race, age, background or gender.
