Charles Eugene ‘Wimpy’ Linger

Charles Eugene “Wimpy” Linger, 70, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1948, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Charles Edward and Lillian Davis Linger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Leo and Gary Neil Linger and brother-in-law, Wyman Mason.

He is survived by two sisters, Jerry Henderson and husband Bruce of Buckhannon and Carol Mason of Steens, Miss., and nieces and nephews, Shawn Babbitt, Jonathan Rowan, Janie Linger, David Linger, Wendy Brown, Misty Fow, Sam Linger and Stormy Linger.

Mr. Linger served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Conyngham during Vietnam. “Wimpy” was a life long volunteer for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Mountaineers and Steelers fan.

“Wimpy” found great joy in his second family at the Bi-Centennial Hotel and the 88 Restaurant, especially his “cuz” Kenny Boyles and wife Andi.  He cherished the great care and support he received from the nurses and doctors at the VA Hospital in Clarksburg, WV and in Pittsburgh, PA.

Friends will be received Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the Living Word Church of God with Pastor Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the graveside.
