The Upshur County Democratic Women host Cookies and Candidates, a forum with Democratic general election candidates, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Volume Bookshop & Studio in downtown Buckhannon.
The evening doubles as a fundraiser for Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School’s library, which was damaged by water in recent storms. Candidates contribute their favorite cookie recipes, and attendees vote for a favorite by dropping donations in voting jars; all of that money goes toward new library books. Cookies, water and coffee will be served.
Organizers expect U.S. Senate candidate Rachel Fetty Anderson, House of Delegates District 65 candidate Mira Tanner-Hughes and state Senate District 11 candidate Kevin Carpenter to attend. U.S. House District 2 candidate Ace Parsi plans to send a statement. Attendees may turn in questions at the start; moderators will choose questions, candidates will briefly introduce their platforms, and informal conversation will follow.
