Upshur County’s sports calendar for Sept. 28–Oct. 4 lists Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan games and meets across eight sports. Highlights include Friday’s home football game against Fairmont Senior and Saturday’s Wheeling–Wesleyan matchup.
Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School fielded three complete teams at the Forest Festival Jack and Jill Relay Invitational, with its A-Team placing third out of 23 in 39:34.60. Felix Stump ran the meet’s third-fastest leg, while the B- and C-Teams finished eighth and 14th.
Buckhannon-Upshur swept Grafton and Robert C. Byrd in straight sets Thursday, capping a perfect 3-0 week and improving to 15-8. Cora Cottrill led the charge with 14 kills and four blocks against RCB as the Lady Bucs continued their midseason surge.

West Virginia history from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3 includes a severe Kanawha Valley flood, labor activism, landmark institutions and cultural figures. Highlights include the roots of Mother’s Day, rural mail delivery and the creation of Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks.
The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur will hold blood screenings this fall and collect winter clothing for flood victims. The club will also support an annual soup drive benefiting Upshur County students.
