Kelly Roach Miller, daughter of the creator of the legendary Mothman Statue in Mason County, has opened a new store – The Mothman Statue Legacy – at 326 Main Street in Point Pleasant just in time for the Mothman Festival on September 19-20. The store opens at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The small business is currently selling a new authentic replica of the Mothman statue in Miller’s hometown and designed by her late father. The shop and her website – the Official Mothman Statue Merchandise – also offer “Shiny Hiney” Mothman butt banks, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, tote bags, wallets and hoodies with the original Mothman Statue logo. She is also featuring Mothman potato chips from Mister Bee and other crafts and popular products.
Miller created the commerce website in 2025 to respond to customer demand for original branded products featuring the Mothman statue sculpted by her late father Bob Roach’s heralded work of art. Miller and her small business, Mothman Statue LLC, hold the official likeness rights to the famous Mothman Statue.
In 2003, the town of Point Pleasant commissioned local artist and sculptor Bob Roach to create the now famous 12-foot-tall stainless steel Mothman statue located on Main Street next to The Mothman Museum.
Roach is said to have created the iconic design of the statue by using an image of a bodybuilder from a magazine as a reference point. He interviewed people who claimed to have seen the Mothman and took bits and pieces of their descriptions of the creature, attempting to combine them into a single form.
“My commitment to my father’s artistic achievement is to produce only official, highly precise miniature replicas and logos of the Mothman statue,” said Miller. “The store and website are a lifelong undertaking of mine, and there is no better time to celebrate my father’s creation than the annual Mothman Festival this weekend.”
A huge fan of the Mothman Statue and Miller’s business venture is Mary Anne Ketelsen, a Parkersburg native who co-owns Mister Bee Potato Chips and launched in 2025 the Mothman Style Mysterious Spice Blend potato chips.
“We are all thrilled that Kelly is showcasing her family’s role in promoting and preserving the Mothman legend and historic statue,” said Ketelsen. “Visit her new store, buy your Mothman merch and then grab a bag of our locally made delicious chips that celebrate this cryptid whose legend originated right here in West Virginia.”
