John L. Landis, Jr., age 70, of Buckhannon’s Tennerton Community, died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born October 1, 1955, in Buckhannon, a son of the late John L. Landis, Sr. and Lottie Booth Landis. He was united in marriage on November 20, 1976, to Debra Burnside Landis, who preceded him in death on September 18, 2014.
He is survived by one daughter, Areta Landis of Buckhannon; one son, John L. Landis, III, and wife, Megan, of Bruceton Mills; five grandchildren: Elijah Carr, Aleah Carr, Ethan Landis, Levi Landis, and Jonah Landis; and one sister, Debbie O’Dell of South Carolina.
Mr. Landis was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.
Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Terry Gower officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery.
