Vandalia Health has promoted Albert “AJ” Hammond to vice president of external affairs and government relations, leading the health system’s legislative, public policy and government affairs strategy across West Virginia.

Hammond began his career in local government in Harrison County before spending more than a decade advancing community and economic development initiatives focused on improving quality of life throughout West Virginia.

Prior to joining Vandalia Health, he served as vice president of chamber services for the Morgantown Area Partnership following the successful merger with Main Street Morgantown, where he served as president.

Throughout his career, Hammond has worked alongside local governments, nonprofit organizations, businesses and community leaders to strengthen West Virginia’s communities through collaboration, strategic planning and public policy.

My Buckhannon

Since joining Vandalia Health in 2024, Hammond has represented the health system before state and federal policymakers, advocating for legislation and policies that improve access to care, support health care providers and strengthen the long-term sustainability of hospitals across the Mountain State.

Hammond earned a Master of Public Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor’s degree from Liberty University. He lives in Morgantown with his wife, Gabrielle, and their four daughters.
