Moon Flower’s 420 Festival returns to Buckhannon this April

Moon Flower’s second 420 Festival is returning this spring, and WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital and West Virginia Wesleyan College have again partnered to raise awareness about health during a 5K in the fall.

A number of events were approved during the Buckhannon Consolidated Public Works Board meeting last month. Macie Queen, co-owner of Moon Flower, asked the city to approve a road closure for the 420 Festival on April 18, 2026.

“This is going to be very similar to the harvest festival we hosted in October of last year. We’re going to have vendors, food trucks — it’s going to have the same exact structure as the festival this past fall,” Queen said. “I received our approval from the Department of Highways two days ago for closing that section of Main Street, so basically right across here from City Hall down to China Wok, that would be the road closure.”

The road closure will allow visitors to easily access the Moon Flower storefront and the food trucks that will be across the street.

“I’m just awaiting some correspondence from Steve Wykoff for the incident action plan, and apart from that, I think everything is ready. We didn’t have any issues last year, so I appreciate your blessing for another successful festival,” Queen said.

Moon Flower’s store on Main Street has been closed to the public for several weeks due to flooding from the roof this winter.

“We are also using this event as a grand reopening,” Queen said. “We just got approval from insurance to replace the roof. We’re waiting on the inside of the building for that portion of the insurance to be approved, but we have our fingers crossed and we’re hoping to finish construction. We have to roll with the punches.”

The public works board also heard from Destiny Brady, project manager for WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital, who described the Healthy Hero Hustle 5K and Health Fair.

“This event is going to be Sept. 19, 2026 — this year and every year so far, we’ve had pretty great turnouts. Our first year of doing it, we had 117 people who registered for the race, and of the 117 who registered for the race, there were 88 who actually participated, but even if they didn’t actually run in the race, they still helped contribute those funds to raise money for the Student Nurses of Wesleyan,” Brady said. “Last year, we had 115 who registered, and only 74 of those participated, but last year, unfortunately, it was a rainy day. It’s one of those things you start planning a year in advance, and then it rains. At the event, we do the run and walk. It starts at the fountain right in front of the chapel.”

Different vendors will also be in attendance to raise health awareness.

“We will have places like Mountain CAP, Upshur County Parish House, even a pancreatic cancer support group, so we would love to have your blessing to have our third one,” she told the board, which approved both events.

Other events approved during the meeting included:

  • Buckhannon Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt on April 4, 2026, at the City Park.
  • WV Conference UMC 5K Walk/Run on June 10, 2026.
  • Relay for Life Celebration at Jawbone Park on July 18, 2026.
  • Cornerstone Community Church Outreach-Carnival Block Party at Jawbone Park on Aug. 8, 2026.
  • One Unique Recovery House-Save A Life Day at Jawbone Park on Sept. 24, 2026.
