Wesleyan women run over Salem for third win in 7-0 victory

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats put together its most dominant offensive performance of the season Wednesday evening at Culpepper Stadium, rolling to a 7–0 shutout victory over Salem University.

The Lady Bobcats (3-4-1, 1-4 MEC) netted three first-half goals and added four more after the break, outshooting the visiting Tigers (1-7, 0-1) by a commanding 35–1 margin and controlling possession throughout the match.

Wesleyan wasted little time setting the tone. In just the 4th minute, Paloma Zamora finished off a pass from Ava Badallo to give the Lady Bobcats an early 1–0 lead then, in the 18th minute, Sydne Alexander converted a cross from Lyndi Voyvodic, with an additional assist credited to Katya Enriquez.

Badallo capped the first-half scoring spree in the 24th minute, burying a strike set up by Sofia Avila, making it 3–0 at the break.

The offensive momentum carried into the second half as the Lady Bobcats continued to press forward. Jordan Hartline scored unassisted in the 54th minute to extend the lead to four. Just seven minutes later, Kailey Garofalo made it 5–0 after being set up by Hannah Murphy.

Moments later, Venla Paunonen added her name to the scoresheet with a 62nd-minute finish, before Brookelynn Washington capped the scoring in the 68th minute on a feed from Hartline.

Bland earned the clean sheet in goal for the Bobcats without facing a shot on frame in the second half.

The Lady Bobcats go on the road to West Liberty University for match Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
