West Virginia Small Business Development Center (WV SBDC) Business Coach Marsa Myers recently attended the America’s SBDC Annual Training Event in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was named West Virginia’s 2025 State Star award winner.
“Marsa exemplifies everything that makes an excellent state star,” said WV SBDC Director Will Miller. “She continually is going above and beyond in her work and is always willing to lend a hand to anyone who may need one. She truly is a state star.”
Myers joins the ranks of honorees from each state recognized at America’s SBDC Annual Training Event.
“Small business owners fuel this state’s economy, and, in fact, 97% of West Virginia companies are classified as small businesses,” Myers said. “This profession brings together my years of experience in coaching, leadership, strategic planning, and emotional intelligence, and allows me to utilize all of them while assisting small business owners. I am thrilled to be working in an industry that creates significant and positive economic change for my state, and I am honored to be selected at the 2025 State Star.”

- Being an exemplary performer
- Making a significant contribution to their state or SBDC program
- Showing a strong commitment to small businesses
Myers has been a business coach with the WV SBDC since 2015. Before that, she
worked as a trainer at West Virginia University, where she developed, delivered and evaluated
training in topics such as leadership, mentoring, coaching, conflict management, strategic planning, EQ/EI (emotional intelligence) and mediation.
Since she began her tenure with the WV SBDC, she has presented client training in various topics including Business Fundamentals, Business from A-Z, and in-house training on Neoserra Tips and Tricks. She earned the training industry’s two highest accolades: the CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) and the Master Trainer designation, both awarded by American Society for Training and Development, and is certified by Duquesne University as a coach.
In 2019, she earned the Certified Business Advisor® (CBA) Graduate Business Certificate from Kent State University. She holds a Master of Arts degree in English and a Master of Public Administration from West Virginia University.
