Patty J. Cutright

Patty J. Cutright, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 10, 1941, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Henline Sandy.

On January 21, 1961, she married Dalton “Bud” Cutright who survives. Also surviving are one son, Howard Cutright and wife Jennifer of Buckhannon; one daughter Lisa Reed of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Robin Reed and Jenna Cutright both of Buckhannon and Adrianna Cutright of Fairmont, WV; one grandson, Justin Reed and wife Hayley of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Haistyn Reed of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter on the way; one sister Shirley Helmick and husband Harvey of Paden City, WV; one brother, John Sandy and wife Nancy of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Robert Reed and Eddie Ey.

Patty graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, class of 1958 and enjoyed meeting with her class mates every month when she was able.

She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for many decades where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and even joined the bell choir.

Patty and her husband owned and operated the Colonial Hotel-Motel for over 60 years. Throughout those years she was gracious to every guest who stayed there and made countless lifelong friends. She was known for her saying, “enter as a stranger, leave as a friend”.

In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting blankets and afghans.

Friends will be received Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at 11 AM with Pastor Paul Rebelo officiating. In honoring Mrs. Cutright’s wishes, she will be cremated following services.

A graveside committal will be held at 12 PM (noon), Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
