Barbara Ann Dawson

Barbara Ann Dawson, age 85, of French Creek, West Virginia, died Friday, June 27, 2025, at her home.

She was born on July 14, 1939, in Frametown, WV, to John Benton and Ollie Roverta Young McLaughlin.

On August 6, 1960, she married George S. Dawson, who preceded her in death on March 31, 2022. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Maxine Cutright and Roberta “Bert” Hefner, and brother James Ernest McLaughlin.

Barbara is survived by three sons: Steve Dawson and wife Monica of Huntington, WV; John Dawson of Richmond, KY; and James E. Dawson and wife Dawn of Bridgeport, WV. She also leaves five grandchildren: Drew, Arionna, Lindsay, Katie, and Michael; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Patty and Lisa.

Barbara was a reading aide at French Creek Elementary School for 29 years. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at Arlington and belonged to the Aletha Chapter #82 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. Private graveside services for family will follow at the Rock Cave Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Way of Holiness Church at 2337 Old Weston Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
