Bobcats get MEC win with strong second half

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball team took on the University of Virginia-Wise on Wednesday evening and picked up their second conference win of the season, topping the Cavaliers 81-69.

The Bobcats utilized a 34-19 run in the last 11 minutes of the game to top the visiting Cavaliers.

Wesleyan went into the half down by four, but came out firing in the second stanza and dropped 52 points to bring home the win. The Bobcats shot 50 percent from three in the second half, which sparked their success down the stretch.

The ‘Cats tied up the game at 52-52 with 9:52 left in the game, and the next five minutes were the most crucial for Wesleyan in sealing the victory. During that five minute stretch, the Bobcats scored 17 and held their opponents to just eight points.

Wesleyan nailed three 3-pointers during that stretch.

Wesleyan had three players in double figures; Fred Brondsted had 22 points including five 3-pointers and added eight rebounds. Dusan Vicentic scored 16 points, while Clay Todd contributed 13 and dished out five assists.
