The Upshur County Commission has signed a contract with artist Tom Acosta for a new mural on the county maintenance building near Main Street. Backed in part by a $5,000 state tourism grant, the $11,500 project is expected to be completed by May 1.

West Virginia Wesleyan College students teamed up with local middle schoolers to create 500+ Valentine’s Day cards for residents at seven area nursing homes.

Elizabeth “Bunny” Mow, 98, passed away on February 7 in Colonie, N.Y. She was a longtime educator, helped found West Virginia Professional Educators, and was devoted to her family.

Curtis Litton poured in 26 points and six threes, but Wesleyan fell 89-72 to University of Charleston at home in MEC play. Charleston’s balanced scoring and dominance in the paint (40-16) plus points off turnovers (27-6) proved decisive as the Bobcats’ rallies were answered.

West Wesleyan survived nine lead changes and seven ties, then erupted in the fourth quarter to beat Charleston 76-73 and stay second in the MEC at 16-5 (13-4). Ana Young and Kilah Dandridge scored 19 apiece as the Lady Bobcats shot 64.3% in the final frame to seal it.
