Soccer ‘Cats drop 3-1 road decision to Frostburg State

FROSTBURG (Md.) — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat soccer team dropped to 4-8-2 on the season Wednesday with a 3-1 loss on the road to Frostburg State University.

Frostburg State scored first in the 31st minute when Dominic Good took a short pass from Abdur-Rahman Neama and finished a strike past Wesleyan keeper James Docherty.

Wesleyan forward John Hollis scored his second goal of the year 10 minutes later after a free kick found the foot of Casey Bunker who dished it to his teammate for the point.

But Frostburg would quickly counter when Christian Mathieu headed in a goal from a corner sent in by Good two minutes before the half.

At 61:23, Frostburg’s Mateo Cuadros sent a free kick into the box that was settled by Alex Retzos to put his team up 3-1.

Wesleyan was outshot 17-9 but held the edge in corners 7-4.

With four games remaining in the 2024 regular season, Wesleyan sits in fifth place with 11 points, just three points behind Davis & Elkins College.

The Bobcats face conference leader and undefeated University of Charleston at Culpepper Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27 for a 3 p.m. start.
