Dorsey Don Carpenter

Dorsey Don Carpenter, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, March 29, 2024, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

He was born March 24, 1938, in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Kessler and Annie Leigh Carpenter. On March 31, 1967, he married Shelbia Zickefoose who preceded Dorsey in death on June 1, 2021. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Marie Carpenter; three brothers, Olen, Denley, and Benford Carpenter and three sisters, Regina Carpenter, Terry Carpenter and Delane Riffle.

He is survived by three brothers, Trever Carpenter and wife Brenda of Queens, WV, Larry Carpenter and wife Christine of Tallmansville, WV, and Eddie Carpenter and wife Betty of Buckhannon; three sisters, Grace Dennison of Hemlock, WV, Elizabeth Macciarone of TX, and Sharon Carpenter of Buckhannon and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carpenter retired, after 31 years of service, from the Upshur County School District as a School Bus Mechanic. He attended Mt. Washington Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army. Dorsey was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3663 in Buckhannon and a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Upshur County Sportsmen and Conservation Club, National Rifle Association, and Upshur County Retired School Association. He was an avid turkey hunter and was inducted in the WV Turkey Hunters Hall of Fame in 1999.

Friends will be received Monday, April 1, 2024 from 11AM to 12 PM (noon), the funeral hour, at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with Pastor Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock, WV. The Upshur County Honor Guard will perform military honors at the graveside.
